The latest Will Ferrell movie, The Other Guys, features two law enforcement officers, one played by Ferrell. As you’d expect, Ferrell’s character is over-the-top, clumsy, funny, and everything else that we’d expect from him.
The official movie poster features Ferrell and Wahlberg sailing through the air, with sidearms drawn. The version of the poster that will be running in San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (“Muni”) vehicles and stations features Ferrell discharging a vial of pepper spray in one hand, holding his badge in the other. Wahlberg sports only his bare fists.
“The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency does have an advertising policy that states ads should not appear to promote the use of firearms or advocate any violent action,” explains spokesman Paul Rose. Here’s their policy on “imminent lawlessness or violent actions“.
Perhaps Muni should prohibit law enforcement officers from carrying sidearms, batons, or from engaging in “violent actions” in stations and vehicles — because they must think that firearms are “bad”.
Does anyone want to take out an advertising campaign detailing “defensive use of a firearm” statistics as compiled by the FBI?
