Sitting Duck Policy

The great people who volunteer to work the gun shows for USSC are directly responsible for our success in recruiting members and growing the USSC email list.  That translates directly into our success getting the Legislature to pass good laws, and stopping anti- gun schemes.

USSC also needs people to help in other areas.  We are looking for someone with website skills, especially the ability to work with graphics to make our site (http://UtahShootingSports.com) a much more attractive and user friendly site.  This is an unpaid volunteer job.  We have a couple other sample sites with lots of good ideas we would like to copy, so if you know how to do this geek magic stuff, send an email to volunteer (at) UtahShootingsports.com

Utah Shooting Sports Council immediately contacted the Davis County Commissioners after they passed a ban on discharging firearms this week . USSC pointed out that their action violated Utah’s “Pre-emption” law which only allows the state to make most gun laws. We have been informed that this new law will be quickly repealed. Special thanks to Mitch Vilos, prominent firearms law specialist (http://firearmslaw.com/) for his help on this.

The motivation for the shooting ban seems to have come from the U.S. Forest Service and newly developed homeowners who claim that bullet hit their houses, either from people stupidly firing towards developed areas from the mountain side, or from near established shooting ranges. Everyone needs to be aware of what is behind their target, and remember that they are responsible for any damage caused by their shooting activities. Safety first!

Please contact the House Law Enforcement, and Criminal Justice Committee members regarding Utah H.B. 129 “Constitutional Carry”.

COMMITTEE MEETS AT 8:00 AM TUESDAY H.B. 129 FIREARMS LAW MODIFICATIONS (Constitutional Carry) is stuck in Committee. Please contact all committee members and ask that they pass this bill with NO AMENDMENTS.

Time is running out!

We need to get this bill to the Senate floor if it is to pass this year. Get everyone you know to call and e-mail now. Regret late notice, but it is important to contact the committee members IMMEDIATELY! Utah Shooting Sports Council has worked hard for this bill but now we need you to step up. After all you are Utah’s Gun Lobby. This bill will allow “Constitutional Carry” in Utah, where law abiding citizens will NOT NEED a concealed weapon permit. Permits will be optional, for people who want one so they can carry in states which recognize Utah permits, or for ID when making a gun purchase from a dealer.

H.B. 75 Safe School Zones Definitions

H.B. 75 DANGEROUS WEAPONS AMENDMENTS (Modifications to Utah Gun Free School Zone) is going to the Senate floor for a vote. Please contact your individual Senator now and ask them to vote FOR this bill.

This bill is good legislation which protects law-abiding gun-owners. It prevents us from inadvertently becoming criminals by crossing through the huge invisible restricted areas created by the current “Gun Free School Zone” definition.

Current Utah law is much stricter than Federal law and all of our neighboring states. This bill reduces the zones to common sense and understandable areas. You need to call the Senate switchboard now at 801-538-1035 and leave a message for your Senator, “Vote YES on HB75- Dangerous Weapons Amendments.” Tell your friends to do the same.
